BENGALURU: Homeopathy critics often say that homeopathic medicines in high dilutions have just a placebo effect. After working in the labs of the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering in IISc, a doctor from Salem has come up with results proving otherwise.
According to research by Dr E S Rajendran, MD in Homeopathy and director of Vinayaka Missions Homeopathic Medical College, Salem, medicines exist in the form of nanoparticles in diluted solutions. He used a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) to magnify solutions one lakh times; he could then see the particles. He then got more information about their composition and nature using a method called Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS).
“Our study conclusively proves the presence of nanoparticles in all high dilutions of homeopathic drugs. Carbo Vegetabilis 6C to CM potencies were analysed and studied,” Dr Rajendran said. He will present his findings at the two-day World Homeopathy Summit to be held in Mumbai from April 11.
“The most debated thing about homeopathy is whether its high dilutions really work. Some say they merely have a placebo effect. This study will remove such misconceptions,” he said.
Dr Rajendran added that drugs like Lycopodium and Psorinum were also studied under the FESEM and EDS machines.
