Now that Winter has finally hit Vancouver I thought it appropriate to write about some handy homeopathic remedies for the bumps and bruises inflicted by winter sports:
Arnica – (Full name – Arnica Montana – from the plant, Leopard’s Bane) Arnica is typically one of the first remedies to take for an injury or accident. Arnica deals with the mental and physical trauma in the following situations: bruising, or even the potential for bruising; bleeding from an impact; aching and problems from over-exertion; shock from injuries. This remedy has a wonderful ability to treat damaged tissues.
Aconite – (Full name – Aconitum Napellus – from the plant, Monkshood) You may recall this remedy from my write-up on “Halloween remedies”. This is a wonderful solution for fright, restlessness, severe shock, fear of death from shock, fright at the sight of blood. If someone is in this state after an accident, Aconite is typically given first. Arnica may be needed next in order to heal the damaged tissues.
Ledum – (Full name – Ledum Palustre – from the plant, Marsh Tea/Labrador Tea) This remedy is similar in action to Arnica, but is most useful when the bruised area feels cold, and when the area feels better from cold applications.
Hypericum – (Full name – Hypericum Perforatum – from the plant, St. John’s Wort) This is one of the best remedies for injuries to nerve endings, crushed fingertips or toes, back injuries – especially the neck area and coccyx (tail bone), and gaping wounds where nerve endings have been damaged. Hypericum treats the type of pain which is common to these injuries: shooting pain along the path of the nerves. It can heal the wounds and repair nerve damage.
Take these remedies as directed on the package until you receive medical attention; then speak to me about how Homeopathy can help!
